SBR
SBR is short for Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber and is a group name for rubbers with the compound bases of Styrene and Butadiene. SBR can be acquired with a bigger part of Styrene and Butadiene for a purer SBR rubber and mixed in other rubber materials such as natural rubber, chloroprene and EPDM.
When the cost is more important than technical demands of the material, SBR is a good option. Either in its purer form or in its blended form where a pure technical rubber is not fully necessary.
The material is very cost-effective compared to other rubbers and is well suited for distances, shock absorbers, more tear resistant packaging material, mats, rubber scrapers or scratch protection.
The material may be obtained patterned such as checker, ribbed, fine grooved and broad grooved in both grey and black color.
Very common for mats in different industries or stores simply for its low price and the effective scratch protection the material gives to shelves and work-benches. Ergonomic standing mats are usually produced with an SBR on the surface.
SBR is found in car tires where between 50-70% of the tire is SBR. It is for us proof of the durability the material holds.
Another fun fact about the material is that to get rid of bad smells from the esthetic patterned material the rubber is mixed with a vanilla essence to make it smell better. We at Cabseal know of no other material where vanilla essence is an additive in an industrial material.
